The CSAA Silver race tightened up Friday as the Panthers rolled to their third straight win and second consecutive shutout with a 21-0 victory over the Wildcats.
The win coupled with Kent City’s triumph over Morley Stanwood knots the Panthers the Mohawks and the Eagles into...
...a 3-way tie atop the conference and puts the Black Cats 2 wins away from postseason play.
“Everyone talks about our explosive offense and our stable of backs, which we definitely do have, but this game was about our defense first and foremost,” said Hesperia Head Coach Doug Bolles. “We came to play and defensively we got after it”
“We are back in control of our own destiny as far as winning a league championship,” added Coach Bolles. “Win next Friday at home vs KC and we earn a share of the title.”
Leading the defense were Brandon Goins and Roy Bolan with 7 tackles apiece while Tanner Goins and Triston Rubin each had a fumble recovery. Kanin Witte chipped in with 5 tackles and picked off 3 Wildcat passes. The Green Machine never allowed their visitors inside their 30 yard line.
On offense Witte rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown, Gerritt Yates ground out 79 yards with a TD and Gage Balkema added another 33 yards also putting up 6 for the Panthers.
“Friday’s game will be huge,” said the coach. “One practice at a time and we’ll come ready to play.”
