Pack Drops Opener 39-0

The Packers ran into a rugged group of Spartans Friday night as the visitors kept their hosts out of the endzone and captured the non-conference opener for both teams.
“Sparta came out firing on all cylinders and took advantage of a few big plays in the first half to put us down 19-0 at half,” said Packer Head Coach Rick Tank. “Our offense moved the ball well and...
...sustained several good drives, yet we could not capitalize and punch it in for a score. We had our chances, just could finish. “
Wei Ping Chen broke loose for 98 yards on the night and quarterback Caleb Kooman went 10-21 with 64 yards passing while adding another 35 yards on the ground for the Pack.
“I am very proud of our boys and the heart in which they had shown throughout the game,” added Coach Tank. “With 9 players seeing their first high school football snap and having all juniors and seniors we adjusted to the speed of the game, just not quick enough to be as effective as we had planned.
“Our boys battled, even down to the very end when we forced a turnover on downs inside our own 10 yard line.
“Now our focus turns to Chip Hills as we look forward to a solid week of practice to prepare for them on Thursday.”
The trip to Chippewa Hills will mark the Packers debut in the CSAA Gold conference. The Warriors opened their season with a 29-6 win over Haslett.
