Newaygo Defeats Tri-County to Move to Boys District Final
By Alexis Mercer
Newaygo 85 Tri-County 43
A week after the Lady Lions faced off against the Lady Vikings in the Girls District Game, the boys teams took their turn.
The last time these two teams played, Newaygo won big. But tournament play is unpredictable and no one can ever come in overconfident or they'll find themselves done for the season before they know it.
So the tension was high and both teams were fired up and ready to go at tipoff.
But from the first minute of play...
...the Lions made it clear they weren't taking anything for granted. Newaygo came out shooting, and found the bottom of the net often.
In case Tri-County wanted to go in the locker room at half time feeling like they were on a roll, Mitch Karrip knew just how to quiet them - by nailing a 3-point before the buzzer.
Newaygo headed into the locker room up by 23 points.
The second half was much of the same. A running clock began and the Lions subbed in, giving some underclassmen a chance at some tournament experience. The Vikings didn't quit, hustling and working hard through the end. But it wasn't their night.
Mitch Karrip ended 6-9 behind the 3-point line and Jacob Polasek and Noah Graff each had 10 points for the Lions.
The Lions were victorious over the Vikings 85-43.
Newaygo will see Grant in the District Final on Friday night at 7:00 in Fremont's gym.
