Lions Wrap Up 4th Win in 5 Days to go 5-0 on Season

The Newaygo Lions would have appreciated a slow-paced, non-contact game against the White Cloud Indians on Wednesday night considering it was their 4th game in 5 days. But the Indians had other plans.
The pace was lightning fast, with fast breaks, aggressive play and contact on nearly every possession for both sides.
White Cloud caused many turnovers and...
...pushed the pace the entire first half; but the ball just wouldn’t find the bottom of the net.
In the second half, however, the ball fell more frequently, which left the Lions with no choice but to dig deep and find the energy to step up their game if they wanted to remain undefeated.
And that they did. The Newaygo Lions go 5-0 on the season while the White Cloud Indians have yet to find their first win.
“Our kids showed some great toughness with this being our 4th game in 5 days,” says Lions Coach Joe Barrette.
Sophomore Connor Swinehart showed up in a big way with 31 points and 12 rebounds, while Senior Cameron Fisk had 14 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Mitch Karrip found his rhythm from the perimeter, adding 13 points to the total score.
“I am also happy with the play of our point guards Jacob Polasek and Morgen Manlick,” adds Barrette. “They push tempo and create several easy baskets for their teammates.”
Conner Dakin lead the Indian offense with 17 points and Jared Elder hit for 14 for the Cloud.
“We dug ourselves a hole going down 14-0 in the first but the team battled back to make it a competitive game,” said White Cloud Coach Bob Jones.
White Cloud next plays on January 6 against Hesperia. The Lions play the same evening at Central Montcalm.
