Ravenna 7 Newaygo 2
The Lions loaded them up in the first inning with just one out but a liner snared by a Bulldog infielder turned into a double play to end the early threat. Ravenna struck in the 3rd scoring twice when David Thompson and Logan Jacobs both walked to start the inning and later scored, the first on a single from Austin Sied. ...passed ball and in the 6th Hunter Lay ripped a double and was brought home on the double off the bat of Nick Simington.
Meanwhile Peyton Bitson was doing his best to limit Ravenna’s scoring going 5 innings and allowing just 3 runs and 5 hits while striking out 4. In the 6th the Bulldogs first 4 batters reached base and all scored, 2 off the Nolan Liszewski single.
Isaac Nausadis reached base 3 times with a hit and 2 walks for Newaygo.
“We had opportunities but gave up some outs on the base paths,” said Lion Head Coach Paul Bailey.
"I was proud of the guys and the way they played at the end of the year,” said Coach Bailey.
“We had some ups and downs throughout the year but I felt the players really came together and battled as the season went on and we were playing our best ball at the end.
“Nobody wants to be knocked out of the tournament but that's the nature of it. There's a lot of time and effort and work that goes into a season and all you ask is that the players leave it all on the field and I felt they did that."
