Lion, Indian Harriers Off To Running Start

Both the Newaygo Lions and White Cloud Indians cross country teams competed Tuesday, August 23 at Kent City in the Long Lake Invitational. Participating schools were Creative Technologies Academy, Grand Rapids Covenant Christian, Howard City Tri-County, Kent City, Newaygo, West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science, White Cloud and Wyoming Godwin Heights.

Wilson Fraser from Kent City brought home the first place finish for the boys with an impressive time of 16:26. Newaygo’s first finisher was Ryan Brummel with a time of 18:24. This time earned Brummel a medal for finishing in the top ten. Rounding out the Lions’ team were David Grodus (20:52) and Nolan Brockway (21:57).
White Cloud’s boys team finished in 5th place with 121 team points. The top three finishers for the Indians were Aramis LaClair (19:12), Adrian Rodriguez (20:23), and Jared Elder (21:08). Grand Rapids Covenant Christian won the boys team race with only 35 points.
The girls race started half an hour later, with 8 schools toeing the line, ready to compete.
The Lions leaders ran in an intimidating pack, working together as a team. As the 3rd mile hit, Ellie Nausadis pulled away from her teammates, finishing with a time of 22:55 and a 5th place medal. Also medaling for the Lions were Yadira Paz (23:14) and Amber Korytkowski (23:15). Rounding out the top five point earners were freshman Sophia Frisbie (23:32) and Samantha Dosch (25:08).
These times earned the Lady Lions a 2nd place finish as a team, next to the winning team of Grand Rapids Covenant Christian.
The White Cloud Indians were led by Ella Bowman, with a time of 22:10 and a 3rd place medal. The remaining point scorers for the Indians were Haley Foster (25:54), Lyndsee Chaffee (26:11), Sariena Maka (26:21), and Kayla Pasch (28:13).
The Indians finished in 4th place with a score of 114.

The next race for White Cloud comes this Saturday at the Benzie Central Pete Moss Invite, while the Lions have a two week wait before competing at their first CSAA Jamboree at Chippewa Hills.
