Grant Takes Shootout Win
By N3 Sports Team
The Tiger and Packer soccer squads met for the first time since Fremont joined the CSAA Gold and like always, the competition between the schools played out on the field resulting in an exciting match that took regulation, overtime, and a shootout to decide.
The teams played to a 0-0 tie in the first half but the Pack...
...got on the board with a goal that was answered about 10 minutes later by Grant. The score remained 1-1 as time expired so the teams took a short breather and went back out for overtime. The defenses held through the OT period so the shootout rule went into effect where five players are chosen to attempt a goal against the opposing goal keeper.
The Packers managed a lone goal as Grant keeper Luis Corona denied the other four attempts.
Then it was Grant’s turn and by their fourth attempt two shots had found their way into the net and the Tigers came away with the win.
Christopher Barendreght scored two of the Tiger tallies with Dakota Arsenault accounting for the other. Angel Ochoa dished out an assist for Grant.
Michael Frey collected 32 steals, and Albert Macias added another 28. Goal keeper Corona played a great game with 22 saves.
The team’s were pretty well matched,” said Tiger Coach Ron Wight. “Fremont is new to our league with a new coach and like us they have a young team with a lot of potential.”
