Grant 71 Tri County 29
The Tigers coasted to their 5th win in a row and 10th in 11 games as they set the stage for the Tuesday showdown with Fremont by running past the Vikings on the road.
“Another good team win for us,” said Grant Coach Matt McCorkle. “I thought we really locked them down defensively after the first quarter. It was quite possibly our best rebounding game of the year.”
Four Grant players cracked the double digit mark in scoring led by Casey Geers who lit it up with 16 points to go with 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Spencer Naffziger put together another excellent game rejecting...
...6 Viking shots and dishing out 7 dimes while knocking down 14 points and collecting 8 boards.
Tyler Naffziger also finished with 14 points, Mike Frey hit for 10 and Carter Chase added a half dozen.
“We have been battling a bunch of kids being sick on our team over the last two weeks. Hopefully, we can get everyone back for Tuesday at Fremont even if we aren't 100%. Our main focus is getting everyone healthy again for when it matters in two weeks.”
The game will be a preview of the upcoming District Tournament opener between the two squads on March 6th also at Fremont.
Tri County 52 Grant 44 (OT)
The Tiger 4 game winning streak came to an end but it took everything the Vikings had to make it happen.
“It was a great game that was back and forth the entire time,” said Coach Paige Paulsen.
Grant took a 2 point lead late in the 4th but a TC triple put them up by a point before Kylie Patton dropped in a free throw to tie the contest.
“We had 2 chances at the end to win but could not convert. In overtime they were able to make their free throws and we just could not get anything going.”
“It was a great game with a lot of emotion. We fought but could not make the defensive stops that we needed to make at the end. Credit to Tri County for multiple players stepping up and making plays.”
Laura Bouwkamp and Goirgia Paleari led the Tigers with 11 points apiece.
