A fired up Cardinal team matched baskets with the potent Packer offense to forge a 13-13 tie after one before Fremont’s defense took hold and took control.
The hosts would score just 13 more the remainder of the game as the Packers streaked to their 4th straight win on the season to move to 5-1 (2-0 conference).
Fremont took a 20-16 lead into intermission and inched it ahead to hold a 26-20 advantage going into the final period. In the 4th they...
...pulled away to secure the win.
Bre Harris (7) and Natalie Jamieson (4) spearheaded a 16 steal night for the visitors with Harris also dropping a 20 point night on the former Lakes 8 rival OV.
Hali Garcia fired in 8 points and Anna Patenge ruled the glass again ripping down a team high 8 boards.
The Pack will return to conference play in search of their 3rd straight league win Friday when they travel to Big Rapids to face the 3-3 (1-1) Cardinals.
Tri Unity 40 Grant 31
Grant came out cold at home as the Defenders launched into a 10-3 lead but the Tigers clawed their way back thanks to some rugged defensive play and accuracy from the charity stripe to reach halftime trailing by a single point,18-17.
The hosts came out of the locker room and grabbed an early 22-20 edge but could not take advantage of some key opportunities and fell behind Tri-Unity. The Tigers continued to battle in the 4th but the Defenders held off the run and secured the non-conference win.
“We gave a great effort tonight,” said Tiger Coach Paige Paulsen. “We did a lot of the right things but shots just did not fall.”
“Give credit to Tri Unity as they limited us offensively,” he added. They were a good team but when it comes down to it, we have to put the ball in the basket.”
Grant was led by Ashley Herin who finished with 8 points.
The Tigers (1-5, 0-2) will head north Friday to face CSAA foe Reed City (2-4, 0-2)

The Packers were cruising in the first building a 19-9 lead behind their patented balanced scoring attack but it proved to be a night of streaks and the Cardinals flew back into contention by halftime with the hosts holding onto a tenuous 27-25 lead.
The Pack came out of the locker room to get the lead back into double digits entering the final frame and pushed their advantage to as many as 14 but despite some easy looks at the basket they could not capitalize and a drought at the free throw line didn’t help matters as the Cardinals clawed to within 4 with 2:30 remaining.
The Packers seemed to find the range once again and managed to put some room between they and the visitors to post their 4th win of the season against a single loss.
Sam Kaastra put together a strong game with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Ben Schmidt fired in 12 points and Ryan Geeting and Logan Karnemaat knocked in 8 apiece. As has been the norm this season the Packers got scoring up and down their bench with 9 players making it into the scorebook.
OV was led by Edmari Mitchell with 17 points and Cameron Williams contributed 11.
Fremont will head to Big Rapids Friday to face an undefeated Cardinal squad.
Tri Unity 43 Grant 39
Carter Chase scored 9 points and Mike Frey hit for 8 but the Tigers let a 35-30 lead slip away in the 4th and dropped the non conference game.
Grant (2-3. 1-1) will travel to Reed City to face the Coyotes who are still seeking their first win of the year.
