District Health Department #10 (DHD#10) is helping communities prepare for the 2017-2018 flu season by offering flu vaccines to children, adults, and seniors. Flu season is unpredictable - even healthy people can become seriously ill. The best way to protect you and your family against influenza is to get an annual flu vaccine and the time to do so is now. The DHD#10 flu clinic in your area is: Location: Croton American Legion Address: 6812 S Croton Hardy Dr., Newaygo, MI 49337 Date: 10/2/2017 Time: 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Call 888-217-3904 to schedule your appointment. Many health insurance plans now cover the cost of flu vaccines. If not, DHD#10 may be able to help through Vaccines for Children (VFC) or other programs. DHD#10 will bill Medicare Part B, Medicare Health Plans, Medicaid, Medicaid Health Plans, Healthy MI Plans, Priority Health, BC/BC, Blue Care Network, McLaren and Consumers Mutual with an insurance card present at the time of appointment. It is important to be aware of your insurance benefit rules. The cost for the seasonal flu vaccination without insurance is $38. High dose and preservative-free flu shots are available for $41. FREMONT – The Tamarac Turkey Trot, a Newaygo County Thanksgiving tradition, is inviting runners of all abilities to join a free training program to help get them get ready for the 5K and 10K races. Train2Trot is a 10-week prep program, with the first week of activities starting on September 18 and end November 20, a few days before Thanksgiving Day Nov. 23. The deadline to register is Sept. 15. In addition to being a free training program that’s included with a Turkey Trot registration, Train2Trot also includes:
“Train2Trot is a great way to help people get ready for Turkey Trot, stay motivated and stay healthy as they work to achieve their fitness goals,” said Tracey Crowley, certified running coach at Tamarac who developed the Train2Trot program. “Train2Trot can help give runners the structure and schedule to stay on track, and that’s why we encourage people of all fitness levels to join this free, fun program. Ultimately, Train2Trot brings people together so they can push and motivate each other, and have fun in the process.” On Thanksgiving Day, the 10K and 5K runs start at 8 a.m. and 8:05 a.m. respectively. The untimed 5K walk begins at 8:05 a.m. and the ½-mile Kids Fun Run starts at 9:05 a.m. Register online at tamaracwellness.org. Participants can only register for one event.
