Golden Arts, Golden Opportunities Golden Arts, a collaborative project of NCCA-Artsplace and Newaygo County Commission on Aging, provides meaningful opportunities for creative expression for older adults at three locations in Newaygo County. In coordination with Senior Meal sites and COA transportation, the program encourages more people to be art-involved and socially engaged. The Golden Arts classes take place in Fremont, Newaygo, and White Cloud. Lindsay Isenhart, NCCA-Artsplace Program Coordinator, is the lead instructor for the classes, and also utilizes local artists as special guest instructors. Golden Arts activities include a variety of art mediums such as clay works, pastels, watercolor, printmaking, silk painting, fused glass, mosaics and... ...fibers such as needle felting. Each class project produces a tangible piece of artwork made by the senior.
When asked about the program, Isenhart stated, “I often tell our senior students that they have been the bright spot of my entire week, adding laughter, interesting stories and energy to the passion for the arts that we share. This is one of the most amazing segments of our community, and giving them more opportunities to practice their art and socialize is a golden opportunity.“ The partnering of Commission on Aging and NCCA-Artsplace for the Golden Arts program utilizes the strengths of both organizations in order to greater benefit the senior adults in our county. The program is funded in part by the Fremont Area Community Foundation Elderly Needs Fund.
